In common with all plotholders, the community allotments are very busy at the moment.

New raised beds have been built by one of the team members.  The wood was provided by Restore, which is a charity based in Northampton town centre, who fund the project and facilitate new people joining the community allotments.

We have just planted up the veg frame with brassicas for the year including summer broccoli, kale, red cabbage and sprouting broccoli for next spring.

We are currently harvesting rhubarb, kale and a good crop of broad beans and lettuce. Strawberries and cherries are on the way and we have netted them so they are protected from the birds.

We have been supported by a group of volunteers from John Lewis last month who repaired our picnic table, painted the shed, cleared weedy areas and cut the grass. It was great to have their help!

VOLUNTEERING

The team is always looking for another volunteer. If you enjoy growing vegetables and would be happy to work with and chat to one or two members of our group, you would be most welcome. The commitment is two hours on a Wednesday morning, although the team does not meet every week over the winter months!

Wendy Nugent, who heads the team, is usually in the hut most Sunday mornings.
